I had the camping bug. I talked Eric into going camping with the kids in July. Omar had an earlier experience in May at the Father/Son campout. He loved it! Every weekend he would ask when we could go again. This was Marisol's first time. The kids were so giddy all day. They woke up early and started talking about the camping trip. We had some preparations to do first. I needed to go to the store for food and some camping essentails. We loaded up the cars (yes you read right, I said cars) after lunch and headed up Logan Canyon to enjoy time away from the hustle and bustle of life. Hailey was so happy to go camping with us. She loves to camp and be around her people! We found a great spot not to far up the canyon. I insisted we get a paying campsite so we could have running water and toilets for the kids first camping experience.
We got up there about 2 in the afternoon, set up and settled in. We kept the kids busy by playing UNO, going on nature walks, collecting firewood and starting the campfire. The kids really wanted to roast hot dogs over the fire and Eric and I wanted tin foil dinners. To each their own. The kids ate sooner than we did. It took a while to start a fire because we forgot fire starters and had to rummage around for dry twigs and paper. Several minutes and attempts later, we had a roaring fire. The kids found lots of sticks for the fire. Unfortunatley they didn't last long. good thing it was a warm night. Eric's parents came to spend time with us around the campfire. We played some games of UNO, the kids climbed trees and then we collected more wood for the fire. It was a lot of fun having them come spend time with us up the canyon!
We brought a saw with us to cut wood, but realized we grabbed the metal saw not the wood saw. Darn it! Marisol was determined to cut the big log any way. She spent an hour cutting to smaller logs for the fire. She has what you call "stick-to-it-ness". You go girl!
After grammy pammy and grandpa du left, we sat around the fire enjoying the peacefulness of the mountains. What a beautiful night it was. When it started to get dark, the kids got on their pj's and we started getting ready for bed. We rolled into our tent ready to enjoy a peaceful night's rest. Boy were we wrong! Omar didn't sleep for a LONG time. We heard the cars in the canyon rush by. Eric and I were on a slight slant that caused enough rolling to keep us awake. The only two that slept well were Marisol and Hailey. Their gently snores assured us that they were asleep.
Morning came early for us. We got up, cooked breakfast, took down camp, loaded the cars and headed out the canyon by 10am. Back home we took hot showers, bathed Hailey, did laundry and took naps.
Does it seem like you need a vacation day after your vacation? At least the kids had a good time and can't wait to do it again!

That is so fun. I always love camping with the family. We plan on going this month up the canyon too. Dave helped create the wheelchair path at Malibu-guineva, for his eagle scout so we go there:) It's amazing how much stuff you have to bring huh? now we can't even fit into the truck anymore either:) Glad you had fun!
